The STROKERECOVERY CUP was implemented in order to make the general public more aware of the causes of stroke, the effects on people’s lives, as well as the types of rehab available. The ‘CUP’ will be played twice a year, between Glasdesville Ryde Magic FC and Bankstown United FC. All funds raised will be used to provide St George Hospital Rehab Ward with the latest technology to use with patient rehab.

In a wonderful initiative, National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s clubs Gladesville Ryde Magic and Bankstown United have joined forces to support and promote the ‘Stroke Recovery Cup’ in a bid to raise awareness for people suffering strokes and going through rehabilitation across Australia.

Both clubs will compete for the ‘Stroke Recovery Cup’ each time they meet during the 2021 NPL 3 NSW Men’s season with the first match scheduled for Sunday 18th of April at Christie Park for its round 7 encounter while the reverse fixture at Jensen Park will be held on Saturday the 3rd of July.

The two teams will also share information through their social media channels as a way to inform their participants on stroke prevention, stroke recovery and rehabilitation.

Gladesville Ryde Magic currently have the Stroke Recovery logo on the back of its senior Men’s playing jerseys for 2021.

Both George Ganiatsas from Gladesville Ryde Magic and Dimitri Hursales from Bankstown United agreed that if they are able to assist one person with their stroke recovery, their combined efforts with this would be worthwhile.

Both teams are looking forward to a large turn out when they meet on the 18th of April with NPL 2 NSW Men’s side NWS Spirit FC stating it’s commitment to taking on the Magic for the ‘Cup’ in a preseason challenge in 2022.

Promoting the website www.strokerecovery.rehab, this website has been setup to provide information on stroke, showcase individual rehab journeys as well as offering individual exercises for those going through stroke recovery.

There is also an official Facebook page that can be viewed here.

Strokes affect many Australians yearly.

In an alarming statistic, 27,428 Australians experienced strokes for the first time in their lives in 2020 which equates to one stroke every 19 minutes.

Over 445,000 Australians are living with the effects of stroke making websites such as this useful for anyone or their loved ones going through it.
